Ankita Bhandari Murder Case Rahul Gandhi Backs Parents Protest Demanding Hold on Dushyant Gautam Sikkim Governor Post: Is There a BJP Leader Connection Here?

The fight for justice in the death of a young resort receptionist has returned to the center of national politics after her grieving parents launched a fresh protest in the national capital. Ankita Bhandari, a nineteen-year-old woman from Uttarakhand, lost her life in September 2022 after refusing to yield to illegal demands at a luxury resort where she had recently started working. Her parents have traveled to Delhi to demand accountability, insisting that powerful individuals linked to the case must face full scrutiny before receiving prestigious public offices.

The latest wave of public anger erupted following the decision to appoint senior Bharatiya Janata Party leader Dushyant Kumar Gautam as the new Governor of Sikkim. The victim's mother, Soni Devi, and father, Virender Singh Bhandari, have raised strong objections to the appointment, demanding that it be put on hold until the Central Bureau of Investigation finishes its inquiry into the murder case. The parents claim that political clout should not shield anyone whose name has surfaced in conversations related to the incident.

Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi stepped in to throw his political weight behind the grieving family, meeting the parents at their protest site and assuring them that their struggle would not be forgotten. The Congress leader stated that the entire country stands with the family in their quest for truth and justice. He questioned the ruling administration for advancing political appointments while critical questions about the identity of influential guests at the resort remain unanswered.

The core question driving the controversy is whether there is a direct connection involving a senior ruling party leader as the unnamed VIP guest at the resort. Ever since the murder came to light, public discussions in Uttarakhand have centered on the mystery person for whom the young receptionist was pressured to provide special services. Opposition leaders and the victim's family point out that allegations publicly surfaced linking Gautam to that very VIP angle, following controversial claims made by political figures in the state. While Gautam has strongly denied the accusations and even filed legal defamation notices against those making the claims, protesters argue that elevating him to a constitutional position creates suspicion that the government is shielding powerful political figures from full investigation.

The tragic incident dates back to September 2022 at the Vanantara resort near Rishikesh in Pauri Garhwal district. Ankita had taken up the job as a receptionist to help support her humble family. Within weeks of joining, the resort owner, Pulkit Arya, who is the son of a former ruling party state politician, along with two managers, allegedly pressured the teenager to provide special services to important guests staying on the property.

When the young woman courageously refused to compromise her dignity, an intense quarrel broke out on a secluded road near the Chilla barrage canal. Police investigations revealed that during the heated argument, the accused men pushed the teenager into the deep, fast-flowing waters of the canal, where she drowned. Her body was recovered six days later by disaster relief teams, sending waves of shock and rage across the hill state.

Shortly after the murder came to light, public fury intensified when local administrative authorities suddenly ran bulldozers over parts of the resort. While officials claimed the demolition targeted illegal construction, the family and civil rights groups condemned the rapid destruction of the building, arguing that the bulldozer action was a deliberate attempt to erase vital forensic evidence, such as room contents and security records.

Throughout the trial in local courts, the family continuously demanded an independent investigation to uncover the true identity of the VIP guest mentioned in text messages sent by Ankita to her friends before her death. The parents have repeatedly alleged that local police failed to pursue high-ranking political figures who had visited the resort around that time. The demand for an uncompromised federal probe eventually led to calls for a thorough CBI inquiry to examine every unanswered angle.

The appointment of Gautam as a state governor has now renewed that demand with fresh urgency. Opposition leaders argue that elevating high-ranking political figures to constitutional posts like governorships grants them legal immunity from regular police processes, making it harder for investigative agencies to summon them for questioning. Because of this legal shield, civil society activists argue that all related inquiries must conclude transparently before such oaths of office are taken.

The prolonged battle fought by the Bhandari family has turned into a major rallying point for women safety and justice in northern India. University students, women organizations, and local community groups across Uttarakhand have organized candlelight vigils, protest marches, and social media campaigns echoing the demands of the parents. They argue that ordinary citizens must see that the justice system treats powerful political figures with the exact same firmness as any other person.

As the family continues their protest in Delhi, national attention remains focused on the central government response. With opposition leaders promising to raise the issue inside Parliament, the struggle highlights the deep pain of parents who refuse to give up their demand for a fair, unbiased, and complete investigation into the loss of their young daughter.
