A campaign aimed at inspecting government school infrastructure turned into a tragedy in Bankura district after an elder fell victim to a fatal violent attack. Sheikh Mohammad Mafik, the father of twenty-five-year-old volunteer Sheikh Abdul Hafeez associated with the Cockroach Janta Party, passed away while undergoing medical treatment at Burdwan Medical College. The death followed an assault on his household shortly after his son conducted a local school inspection, sparking widespread political reactions and a swift law enforcement response across the region.

The chain of events began when Hafeez visited Karishunda Paschimpara Primary School in the Indus block to assess educational facilities as part of his political organization's nationwide initiative aimed at documenting public school conditions. During his visit, Hafeez met with the local headmaster, who requested him to return the next day to address concerns regarding the institution. However, late that evening, a group of armed miscreants armed with sticks, iron rods, and crowbars allegedly broke into the family residence.

According to family statements, the intruders targeted Hafeez and tried to compel him to record an apology video disavowing his social media updates regarding the educational infrastructure. When Hafeez resisted and subsequently managed to escape the immediate physical confrontation, the assailants turned their attention toward his father. Sheikh Mohammad Mafik stepped in to protect his household and sustained severe blunt-force head trauma during the violent struggle. Although local authorities intervened and initially admitted the injured senior to a regional health center, his condition deteriorated sharply, necessitating an emergency transfer to Burdwan Medical College where he eventually succumbed to his injuries.

Local law enforcement authorities registered a formal case of murder following a complaint lodged by Hasina Begum, the wife of the deceased. Acting on the complaint, police teams mobilized across the sub-division and arrested eight individuals in connection with the fatal assault. The suspects were subsequently produced before the Bishnupur sub-divisional court, where police officials secured custody for key accused individuals while placing others through necessary legal procedures. Security personnel have also been stationed around the family residence to maintain law and order in the locality.

The incident triggered intense political activity and sharp exchanges between various political organizations. Representatives from the Cockroach Janta Party condemned the incident, demanding strict punishment for all individuals involved and dispatching senior party members to visit the bereaved family in Bankura. Similarly, representatives from the Youth Congress expressed solidarity with the family and offered legal assistance.

In response to the allegations regarding political involvement, state authorities dismissed claims connecting political organizations to the assault, categorizing the perpetrators strictly as miscreants. Official statements emphasized that law enforcement agencies acted promptly upon receiving the formal complaint, resulting in multiple arrests, and assured that the ongoing probe would ensure complete accountability through formal judicial procedures.
