BJP Admitted To Misusing SIR Process By Withdrawing Objections, Says Satish Jarkiholi

A strong political controversy has erupted over the electoral roll revision drive in Karnataka. Public Works Minister Satish Jarkiholi asserted that the Bharatiya Janata Party has indirectly acknowledged its improper actions by withdrawing thousands of objection applications submitted across the state. The statements come during heated debates between the ruling Congress and opposition leaders regarding the transparency of the voter verification drive conducted by election authorities.

Addressing reporters in Belagavi, the senior leader pointed out that large numbers of objection petitions had been filed through pre printed applications to remove genuine electors from voter lists. He explained that when questions arose about the legitimacy of these mass complaints, local party workers quickly started taking back the documents they had submitted to election officers. According to him, the sudden rush to retract these claims clearly shows that the initial efforts were carried out without proper verification.

The dispute centers on the Special Intensive Revision exercise currently being managed by election authorities. As part of this administrative exercise, citizens can raise challenges against entries in the draft list by submitting Form 7 applications. The Congress leadership alleged that thousands of such challenge forms were systematically arranged and submitted in bulk without the actual knowledge of the named applicants, targeting specific areas and communities.

Questioning the organizational backing behind the massive submissions, the minister asked how private printing setups were engaged to mass produce official templates. He alleged that ordinary workers were used to submit the papers at various local centers to target particular neighborhoods. Once the state leadership raised serious concerns and demanded formal investigations, the individuals who submitted the files began requesting officials to return the applications without taking punitive action.

The row over voter verification has drawn top leaders into public confrontation across multiple districts. Congress leaders recently held demonstrations outside election offices, presenting documents and video evidence alleging coordinated attempts to strike eligible voters off the registers. The party has sought strict inquiries by police authorities into whether personal voter data and identification numbers were obtained and misused for mass deletion campaigns.

Opposition representatives have strongly rejected the charges of malpractice, insisting that political workers have every legal right to highlight suspect voter registrations. They maintained that checking voter lists is an open administrative duty and that only the election commission holds the power to accept or reject any entry after field verification. Opposition figures have described the Congress agitation as an attempt to distract attention from administrative issues.

Election officials have issued directives instructing registration officers to examine submitted forms with care and proceed against anyone who knowingly makes false declarations. Special verification procedures are being carried out to guarantee that legitimate electors do not lose their voting rights during the revision process. Election authorities stated that eligible citizens left out of the lists will be granted opportunities for re-enrollment through subsequent drives.

The minister maintained that the integrity of the voting system must remain protected from partisan interference. He emphasized that submitting inaccurate declarations to drop voters constitutes a serious threat to democratic norms. The state government continues to demand comprehensive inquiries into the origins of the pre-printed files and the organizational machinery behind the bulk submissions.
