Kanpur Businessman Arrested For Cheating Thai Wife Of Rs 60 Lakh And Hiding First Family
A shocking case of matrimonial fraud and financial deception has come to light from the industrial hub of Kanpur in Uttar Pradesh. Police authorities have taken a local leather trader into custody after a foreign national from Thailand arrived in the city to track down her missing husband. The woman alleged that the businessman married her overseas, took roughly sixty lakh rupees under false pretences, cut off all communications, and kept his twelve-year-old first marriage completely hidden from her.
The relationship began through social media platforms where the two connected and began regular conversations. Over time, their online friendship turned into a romantic bond, and the businessman travelled to Thailand on multiple occasions to meet her. During these visits, the man presented himself as a single, unmarried entrepreneur looking for a lifelong partner. Trusting his promises, the couple tied the knot according to local traditions in Thailand and began living as husband and wife.
Soon after the wedding, the businessman began asking for substantial sums of money to expand his leather processing venture back home in northern India. Believing that she was supporting her husband and investing in their shared future, the woman transferred approximately twenty lakh Thai baht, which amounts to about sixty lakh Indian rupees, across multiple banking transactions. However, once the funds reached his control, the man returned to India and slowly began ignoring her calls before severing all contact entirely.
Realising that something was seriously amiss, the woman decided to take matters into her own hands. She travelled over three thousand kilometres from Thailand to the Anwarganj locality in Kanpur to search for him in person. When she finally traced his residential address and knocked on the door, she received the biggest shock of her life. The man she believed was her newly wedded bachelor husband was already married for over a decade and living comfortably with his first wife and three growing children.
When the Thai national confronted the businessman outside his residence and demanded the return of her sixty lakh rupees, the situation quickly turned hostile. The woman stated in her police complaint that the man and his relatives verbally abused her, physically assaulted her, and issued direct threats to her safety if she did not leave the country immediately. She further stated that the businessman told her she could only stay with him or recover her money if she agreed to convert her religion.
Left stranded in an unfamiliar city, the woman reached out to senior police officers in Kanpur to seek justice and protection. Taking serious note of the cross-border nature of the crime, the police registered a First Information Report at the local Anwarganj police station. The charges against the businessman cover cheating, physical assault, criminal intimidation, and violations under the state anti conversion laws. Following the formal complaint, police squads moved swiftly and placed the accused under arrest.
Investigators have launched a comprehensive verification of the documentary proof submitted by the foreign complainant. Police teams are reviewing passport travel stamps, marriage photographs, and international bank transfer statements to trace the complete money trail linked to the sixty lakh rupee transaction. The woman was sent for formal medical examination to document injuries sustained during the confrontation, and local administrative teams have ensured security support for her stay.
The incident highlights how cross-border romance frauds exploit personal trust and international distance to swindle unsuspecting partners. The police have presented the accused before a local court for formal judicial processing while continuing further inquiries to recover the borrowed funds. Senior officers stated that the case will be pursued thoroughly to ensure strict legal punishment for deception, domestic cruelty, and illicit financial extraction.
