Farmers protest- “Delhi Chalo March”

Farmers protest- Delhi Chalo March

Farmers’ protest on 27th December 2020 Friday led to Chaos in Delhi as the farmers decided to reach Delhi in order to claim their rights. The “Delhi Chalo March” had given sudden tension among officials as farmers claimed for a discussion with Ministers to look into the recently enacted farm laws.

Delhi Police allowed the farmers to do a peaceful protest in Nirankari ground in Burari . However they refused the offer and the main motto being a positive response from the government they marched to Delhi. In a situation like this where there is a higher rate of covid-19 spread, it is quite dangerous to gather and the worst being protests all over. Farmers say they are not afraid of being affected by covid-19 rather are afraid of being discriminated against by the government. Farmers complain about the law saying it is benefiting big companies and crushing small farmers. The discontinuity by the government in the minimum support price is the main reason for Kisan Kanoon conflicts, say farmers.

The farmers’ protest started on the call of Bhartiya Kisan Union. Farmers belonging to Meerut, baghpat ,Muzaffarnagar and other districts were indulged in the “Delhi chalo March”.

Trackers, lorries, trucks and other vehicles were not being allowed by the Delhi Police. Delhi Police were trying to convince them to halt or reduce the Chaos by talking to the leaders of the farmers. The Delhi Police also used water cannons and tear gases at the farmers. The farmers protesting demanded the Delhi Police to ensure a free and safe passage. The trucks and lorries were containing all necessities. They were well equipped with tractors filled with full ration and gas cylinders . They carried phone chargers , blankets etc in the trucks ,tractors and vehicles used in the protests .

Union agriculture minister Narendra Singh Tomar said “The Government has always been ready to discuss any sort of issues with farmers” also that they have already invited farmer’s organisations for another round of discussion to be held on December 3rd 2020.
