In a massive win for Indian aviation, Rajiv Gandhi International Airport in Hyderabad has achieved a stellar global milestone. On Monday, July 13, 2026, GMR Hyderabad International Airport Limited announced that the facility has been ranked the fourth most family-friendly airport in the world. The prestigious ranking was compiled by AttractionTickets.com, a prominent United Kingdom-based travel experience provider, as part of its Happiest Airports Ranking campaign. Evaluating more than 140 airports across the globe, the study analyzed how effectively modern airports accommodate families traveling with children, elderly members, or neurodivergent individuals. Hyderabad airport emerged as a shining star, securing an impressive score of 18.5 out of 20, making it one of only two Indian airports to feature in this elite global list.

The extensive evaluation process was based on nine key family-centric performance indicators to ensure a fair and comprehensive assessment. These parameters included real-time Google review ratings, airport size, Wi-Fi quality, and the availability of essential infrastructure like children play areas, dedicated family security lanes, clean baby-changing facilities, and complimentary stroller services. Crucially, the survey also rated airports on their specialized rest zones and their administrative support for neurodivergent passengers, who often find busy transit hubs overwhelming. By excelling in all these areas, the Hyderabad facility proved that modern travel design should prioritize inclusion and convenience. This high score is a reflection of intentional architecture, where the stress of navigating a massive international terminal is systematically reduced through thoughtful passenger-facing services.

This recognition marks a major milestone for the GMR Group, which has consistently invested in passenger experience over the last decade. Commenting on the achievement, Kadhir Kadhiravan, the Chief Executive Officer of GMR Hyderabad International Airport Limited, emphasized that the ranking validates their commitment to designing an empathetic transit experience. To make journeys smoother, the airport offers a wide range of services, including well-equipped baby care rooms on all levels, trained passenger service associates to guide young families, and even trained therapy dogs to reduce travel anxiety. Additional lifestyle elements like a peaceful yoga room, diverse dining options suitable for children, and family-oriented retail stores help transform the airport from a mere waiting zone into a pleasant, relaxing space.

However, maintaining this elite global status will require continuous effort as passenger volumes rise rapidly. As international travel continues to grow, maintaining the cleanliness of baby care facilities and ensuring the immediate availability of complimentary strollers during peak hours will be a constant operational challenge. Critics note that while large-scale airports often excel on paper, actual passenger experience can vary significantly during holiday rush seasons when security lanes get congested. Nevertheless, by setting a high standard for customer care, the Hyderabad airport is showing other domestic terminals how to build human-centric infrastructure. This global accolade is not just a proud moment for the city, but a clear blueprint for the future of next-generation travel, proving that empathy and efficiency can successfully coexist in modern aviation.
