INDIA Bloc Rally At Ramlila Maidan Sees Rahul Gandhi Call For Public March Across New Delhi

Lok Sabha Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi has called upon everyday citizens and political supporters to join an open foot march across the heart of the national capital before gathering at Ramlila Maidan for a major rally organized by the INDIA alliance. Using the direct rallying slogan to walk together, the senior Congress leader reached out to people from all walks of life, urging them to register their voices against the policies of the central government. The planned gathering comes as opposition parties step up their joint campaign to challenge administrative decisions, election oversight mechanisms, and the state of democratic institutions in the country.

The call to march marks the opening stage of a massive opposition demonstration planned at the historic Ramlila Maidan ground. The site has witnessed some of the most significant public movements and political gatherings in modern Indian history. According to the plan shared by the Congress leader, the foot march is designed to start around noon from the Minto Road junction near Connaught Place, move through the busy streets toward Ajmeri Gate, and finally culminate inside the spacious grounds of Ramlila Maidan. The route cuts directly through key commercial and public transit hubs in the center of the capital.

However, the proposed march has run into an immediate procedural obstacle with city law enforcement authorities. Delhi Police officials stated that no formal permission had been sought or granted for holding an open public march originating from Connaught Place toward Ramlila Maidan. Central Delhi houses critical railway stations, metro lines, and retail markets that experience heavy weekend foot traffic. Security planners pointed out that unauthorized street marches can quickly paralyze local traffic circulation and create safety concerns for regular travelers and shopkeepers in nearby trading centers.

Rahul Gandhi directed strong allegations at the Union Ministry of Home Affairs, claiming that administrative machinery was being used to block common citizens and party workers from traveling into Delhi. He alleged that supporters traveling by road and train from neighboring states like Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Punjab, Rajasthan, and Madhya Pradesh were being stopped at various entry points. The opposition leadership asserted that peaceful demonstration is a constitutional guarantee and that citizens have a democratic right to travel to the capital to present their views to the elected government.

The political tensions surrounding the Ramlila Maidan rally center on sharp opposition criticism of the Election Commission of India and its special intensive revision of voter rolls. The INDIA alliance has claimed that recent election processes and revisions of electoral rolls have raised transparency concerns that need direct public debate. Having failed to secure what they consider satisfactory answers inside Parliament, opposition leaders decided to take the matter onto city streets and open public grounds.

Leaders from various regional parties that make up the INDIA alliance are expected to share the central stage at the Ramlila Maidan ground. The platform will bring together representatives from regional forces operating across the northern, eastern, and southern states, creating a unified public front against the ruling National Democratic Alliance. Party workers have spent days preparing stage seating, audio systems, and volunteer medical units across the grounds to manage the expected crowds arriving from across the country.

The ruling Bharatiya Janata Party responded with sharp counter arguments, dismissing the opposition rally as an exercise born out of repeated electoral defeats. Ruling party leaders questioned the opposition claims regarding voting systems, pointing out that state elections have produced varying results across different parts of the nation. Government spokespersons argued that holding disruptive street marches without taking legal police clearance creates unfair difficulties for ordinary commuters and small store owners operating in central business districts.

With hundreds of party cadres moving toward the national capital and local police deploying heavy security forces along sensitive junctions, the central area of Delhi is set for a high voltage political showdown. As the hour for the planned march nears, the primary question remains whether police barricades will allow the crowd to move along public avenues toward Ramlila Maidan, or whether security forces will stop the gathering before it reaches the historic rally venue.
