“Nationwide Anti-Trump Protests Planned Across 50 States on April 19, 2025 to Resist ‘Hostile Government Takeover’”

In a bold and widespread response to what they call an assault on American democracy, anti-Trump groups across the United States are preparing for a massive nationwide protest on April 19, 2025. The movement, led by the organization known as “50501” — which stands for 50 Protests in 50 States, 1 Movement — is aiming to rally over 11 million participants, making up approximately 3.5% of the U.S. population. This ambitious effort follows the success of the April 5 “Hands Off!” protests, which saw rallies in over 1,200 locations across all 50 states, as well as in international cities like London, Paris, and Berlin.

The 50501 group emerged in early 2025, galvanized by what it describes as the “antidemocratic and illegal actions” of President Donald Trump during his second term. The group identifies itself as a grassroots coalition united in peaceful protest, civic action, and solidarity to resist authoritarianism and protect civil liberties. With the motto “50 States. 50 Protests. 1 Movement,” 50501 has already organized several significant demonstrations earlier this year, including “No Kings Day” on February 17 and another major protest on March 4.

The April 19 protest is positioned as a direct response to what the organizers term a “hostile government takeover” by the Trump administration. They accuse the administration of pushing forward policies that alienate wide segments of the American population. These include aggressive downsizing of the federal workforce, shutting down social security offices, implementing laws that recognize only two genders, escalating deportations, cutting federal budgets for healthcare and education, and exerting heavy pressure on U.S. allies. Protesters argue these moves are not only divisive but also deeply damaging to the foundational principles of democracy.

The movement also raises concerns over what it calls “rampant corruption” and “the most brazen power grab in modern history,” carried out by Trump and his close ally Elon Musk, who currently heads the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE). Demonstrators are demanding a halt to the sweeping executive actions, the defunding of essential federal programs, and the erosion of protections for marginalized communities including immigrants and transgender individuals.

April 5’s “Hands Off!” protests marked a significant moment in American civil resistance, with participation from over 150 organizations including civil rights groups, labor unions, and advocacy bodies. That momentum is now being channeled into the April 19 demonstrations, which promise to be equally large in scale and impact. Organizers say the protests will continue to be peaceful but assertive, as they strive to make clear that millions of Americans reject what they perceive as authoritarian overreach.

The 50501 group has made it clear that they view this moment as critical in the defense of American democracy. Their call to action has resonated deeply with citizens across the nation, from grassroots communities to major metropolitan centers. With increasing participation and a clear message, the April 19 protests could represent one of the largest coordinated demonstrations in recent U.S. history.
