Panipat Hospital Assault Case Ends In Tragedy As Patient Dies During Medical Care
A fifty-eight year old woman who was allegedly sexually assaulted inside the diagnostic wing of the Panipat Civil Hospital passed away during treatment at the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences in Rohtak. Authorities confirmed that the prime suspect, a security guard named Rakesh Kumar employed by a private agency running the facility, was arrested by local law enforcement. The tragedy has sparked widespread outrage across the region, putting a spotlight on security lapses within public-private healthcare infrastructure.
The victim was originally rushed to the government hospital late in the evening after complaining of severe physical distress. Attending medical staff advised diagnostic imaging, including an X-ray and a CT scan, to evaluate her condition. According to the complaint filed by her family, the male security guard instructed her relatives to wait outside the diagnostic room. Once inside, the guard reportedly locked the door and assaulted the patient, who was unable to offer physical resistance due to pre-existing health complications including diabetes and heart disease.
Following the incident, the victim recounted her ordeal to her family after regaining full consciousness, prompting them to notify law enforcement immediately. The city police station registered a case under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, incorporating charges of sexual assault and criminal intimidation. As her health deteriorated rapidly overnight, doctors referred her to the specialized institute in Rohtak, where she ultimately succumbed during emergency care.
Health officials confirmed that an official inquiry panel has been constituted to investigate the circumstances surrounding the event and assess protocols followed by the private vendor operating the imaging center. The private firm subsequently terminated the services of the security guard and the duty technician who was absent from the room during the scan. Authorities have assured that mandatory guidelines will be strictly enforced to guarantee the presence of female healthcare staff whenever female patients undergo diagnostic procedures.
