A 35-year-old associate professor at Zhejiang University’s School of Marxism, identified as Lou, has sparked widespread debate after listing strict criteria for selecting a girlfriend. He holds a PhD from a top Chinese university and earns an annual income exceeding 1 million yuan (₹1.16 crore). He mentioned his passion for sports and financial investments and highlighted his background as the only child in a well-off family from Yiwu, Zhejiang.
Lou’s preferences for a potential girlfriend are highly specific, requiring her to be born after the year 2000, making her at least a decade younger than him. He outlined an ideal height range of 165–171 cm and emphasized that she must be “slim and have a good image.” Academic credentials also played a crucial role in his selection process, as he stated that she must possess at least a bachelor’s degree from one of nine elite Chinese universities. Additionally, Lou expressed a preference for women majoring in law or medicine but mentioned he might consider exceptions for those with remarkable qualities in appearance, family wealth, or personal abilities. He also noted that graduates from foreign institutions ranked in the top 20 globally might be considered under special circumstances.
Following the viral spread of Lou’s matchmaking criteria, Zhejiang University’s School of Marxism issued a statement on March 17, distancing itself from the controversy. The university clarified that the post contained “some untrue information” but did not specify which details were inaccurate. Additionally, the statement mentioned that Lou had reported the matter to the police.
