Air India led by Tata Group created an aviation history recently this week with the biggest aircraft order. They placed an order for 470 aircraft (400 single aisles & 70 wide bodies) from USA’s Boeing and France’s Airbus, with an option to procure additional 370 jets over the time period of 10 years.
They have placed a firm order of 220 aircrafts with Boeing and 250 aircrafts with Airbus. The historic single tranche commercial aviation deal could become larger as there is an option to purchase 370 additional jets which will hike the count to 840. This deal will definitely help Air India to spread its horizons in India and other countries.
The firm order to Airbus consists 210 A- 320/321 Neo/XLR and 40 A350-900/1000, whereas the Boeing firm consists 190 737-Max, 20 787 and 10 777s. Along with the biggest deal Air India has also signed long-term deals with CFM International SA, Rolls-Royce Holding Plc and GE Aerospace Inc for engine maintenance.
As per the reports, the previous biggest aviation order was a 460 plane order by American Airlines in 2011.
