Kangana Ranaut’s comments on the farmers’ protest have sparked a strong backlash, with the opposition intensifying its criticism of the BJP MP. On Wednesday, AAP workers held protests in Chandigarh, where a scuffle erupted between demonstrators and the police over Ranaut’s controversial remarks.
Ranaut, who represents Mandi in Himachal Pradesh, shared a clip from her interview with Dainik Bhaskar, in which she claimed that a “Bangladesh-like situation” could have arisen in India if not for strong leadership. She went on to allege that during the farmers’ protests against the now-repealed farm laws, there were instances of bodies hanging and rapes, suggesting the involvement of China and the US in a broader conspiracy.
Her statements have ignited a fierce debate, leading to heated exchanges in the Himachal Pradesh assembly, where the Congress-led House passed a resolution condemning her remarks. The farmers’ protest, which saw thousands from Haryana, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, and other states camped at Delhi’s borders for months, continues to be a contentious issue.
