“…Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj is not just a name to us… today, I bow my head and offer my apologies to my god, Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. Our values are distinct; we are not like those who continually disrespect and insult the great son of Mother India, the son of this land, Veer Savarkar. They refuse to apologize and would rather take the matter to court and fight,” PM Modi stated while addressing a gathering in Palghar.
The Prime Minister also recalled how, after being named the BJP’s prime ministerial candidate in 2013, he sat before Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj’s samadhi at Raigad “as a devotee” before embarking on a new journey. “To those who revere Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and have been deeply hurt, I bow my head and apologize. Our values are different. For us, nothing is greater than our deity,” the PM emphasized.
