Chandigarh: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi launched a scathing attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi during a rally in Assandh, Karnal district, ahead of the Haryana Assembly elections slated for October 5. Rahul accused Modi of systematically dismantling the employment system in the country, blaming the government for the widespread joblessness.
This rally marked a significant moment in the election season as it was the first time two top Congress leaders in the state, former Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda and senior Dalit leader Kumari Selja, both of whom lead rival factions within the party, appeared together on stage. However, Selja was notably absent from Rahul’s later rally in Hisar.
In his speech, Rahul highlighted the severe unemployment issue in Haryana, recalling his recent visit to Texas, where he met 15-20 youths from Haryana who had migrated illegally to the United States via dangerous routes. According to Rahul, these youths shared harrowing stories of their journey and the hardships they endured, including selling their land or taking high-interest loans to finance their move.
Rahul claimed these young people had no choice but to leave India because they lacked employment opportunities in Haryana, and were forced to live in overcrowded rooms with no prospect of returning home for a decade, even in the event of family tragedies. He attributed this plight to the Modi government’s alleged systematic destruction of the employment system.
Additionally, Rahul Gandhi raised concerns about the increasing drug problem in Haryana, pointing to the shocking amount of heroin being seized at Adani’s port. He criticized both the central and state governments for failing to address the growing menace of drug abuse in the region.
