On Thursday, the Supreme Court questioned the conduct of Bibhav Kumar, an aide to Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, regarding his alleged involvement in the assault of Rajya Sabha member Swati Maliwal. The Court expressed profound astonishment that such an incident occurred at the residence of the Delhi Chief Minister, highlighting concerns over the manner in which the alleged assault took place.
The Supreme Court issued a notice on Kumar’s bail plea, which is scheduled for a hearing on August 7. Justices Surya Kant, Dipankar Datta, and Ujjal Bhuyan were particularly critical of Kumar’s actions, describing them as inhumane and questioning the moral implications of his behavior. They emphasized that the issue was not merely about the severity of Maliwal’s injuries but about the conduct exhibited during the incident.
Kumar’s lawyer, Abhishek Manu Singhvi, argued for bail, asserting that Kumar could not influence the case as the investigation was already complete and a charge sheet had been filed. Singhvi pointed out that Kumar had been in custody for 75 days and argued that his detention was unnecessary.
