Dilip Kumar Jaiswal Renominated as Bihar BJP Chief Ahead of Crucial Assembly Elections
Patna: In a significant political development ahead of the Bihar assembly elections scheduled for October-November this year, senior BJP leader and former minister Dilip Kumar Jaiswal has been renominated as the state president of the party. The announcement was made at a crucial state council meeting held in Patna, where Bihar BJP council in-charge Manohar Lal Khattar declared Jaiswal’s reappointment.
Jaiswal, who previously held the position of Bihar BJP chief, had earlier resigned as the Minister of Revenue and Land Reforms in adherence to the party’s ‘one person, one post’ principle. His resignation from the ministerial role paved the way for his return to the party’s top leadership position in the state, reinforcing the BJP’s aggressive preparations for the upcoming assembly polls. Jaiswal officially filed his nomination on Monday before Election Officer and BJP state general secretary Rajesh Verma, and his unopposed election was confirmed during Tuesday’s meeting.
Speaking on his renomination, Jaiswal expressed gratitude to the party’s leadership for entrusting him with this key responsibility. “Party leadership has given greater responsibility to me. I will try my level best to meet the expectations of the top leadership, who have placed their faith in me. I am thankful to them,” he said. His tenure as the Bihar BJP president will last for three years, a crucial period that includes the upcoming assembly elections.
The meeting, attended by over 6,000 party members—including state officials, district and block presidents, and members of the working committee—focused on BJP’s electoral strategy. Prominent leaders present included Union Energy Minister Manohar Lal Khattar, Bihar BJP in-charge Vinod Tawde, co-in-charge Deepak Prakash, along with ministers from both the Bihar and central governments. The timing of the meeting, immediately following the recent cabinet expansion, signals the BJP’s commitment to a robust election campaign.
Jaiswal previously held dual responsibilities as state BJP chief and a minister in the Nitish Kumar-led NDA government. He took over the party’s leadership from Samrat Chaudhary, who was elevated to the position of Deputy Chief Minister after Nitish Kumar re-aligned with the BJP in January 2024, ending his alliance with the Grand Alliance. With his reappointment, Jaiswal is expected to play a key role in ensuring coordination within the NDA coalition, which includes the BJP, JD(U), HAM, and RLM. A senior BJP leader emphasized that Jaiswal’s ability to maintain strong ties with alliance partners will be crucial in achieving the NDA’s ambitious goal of securing 225 seats in the upcoming polls.
Jaiswal’s renomination marks a significant political move, setting the stage for a high-stakes electoral battle in Bihar. As the BJP ramps up its campaign, his leadership will be closely watched in shaping the party’s strategy and alliance dynamics in one of India’s most politically significant states.
