Illegally stored chemicals blast in a Hyderabad Apartment – 9 lives lost.

On November 13, a tragic incident occurred in Hyderabad, where a devastating fire ignited from a multistorey apartment complex in the Nampally area resulting in the death of at least 9 individuals. It was reported that the fire exploded from the ground floor where chemicals were stored illegally, this disturbing event took the lives of six people and left others injured who are at present taking treatment.

Nagi Reddy, the Director General of Fire Services says that there might be an illegal storage of chemicals in the building. The chemicals were stored in drums and kept near the elevated section of the building and that could be the source of fire. As per the preliminary information from the officials, it is suspected that the victims may have died due to asphyxiation.

Swift response from the first tenders successfully contained the fire and ongoing safety measures are in place to ensure the safety of the residents.

KC Rao, the Chief Minister of Telangana conveyed his solace and asked the officials to release immediate relief measures for the incident. He also declared an ex-gratia fund of Rs.5 lakh for each victim’s family who suffered from this tragedy.

Union Minister G Krishna Reddy visited the location and disapproved the inaction of such cases in addressing them. He highlighted that warehouses of such harmful materials must be relocated and stored outside the city. He also conveyed his intention in meeting the Prime Minister and discussing this issue aiming to provide some financial assistance to the families impacted by the event.

This incident highlights the need of carrying out precautionary measures in storing such harmful chemicals or other hazardous materials. Later, this event also provided help for the affected families and also uplifted questions regarding the regulation and management of harmful materials in urban areas. In the ongoing investigation, it has centered on taking immediate measures, aid the families of the victims and avoid such incidents in the future by taking necessary measures.
