Nitish Kumar India’s 2nd Gandhi who teaches equality, says JDU Leader.

In a recent development in the political landscape of Bihar, posters praising the state’s Chief Minister, Nitish Kumar, as “the country’s second Gandhi” emerged in Patna. These posters were prominently displayed by members of his political party, the Janata Dal (United) or JD(U). The recognition bestowed upon Nitish Kumar in the posters was for his contributions to promoting equality and pursuing social reforms, a path similar to Mahatma Gandhi.

Leaders within the JD(U) were quick to endorse the posters, commending Nitish Kumar for his constant efforts in advocating for social change and emphasizing his alignment with the principles upheld by Mahatma Gandhi. This public display of support aimed to support Nitish Kumar’s image as a leader committed to the betterment of society.

However, the posters did not go unnoticed by the other political parties. Shivanand Tiwari, a prominent member of the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), who responded critically. Tiwari expressed his opinion that while Nitish Kumar may have passionate followers, but likening him to Mahatma Gandhi was an insult to the legacy of the revered Indian leader. Tiwari emphasized the rarity of figures like Mahatma Gandhi, asserting that individuals of his stature emerge only once in a millennium. He even quoted the eminent political figure Ram Manohar Lohia to underline his point.

It is worth noting that the RJD and JD(U) are alliance partners within the INDIA bloc, showcasing the complex dynamics and alliances that characterize Indian politics. Furthermore, the relationship between JD(U) chief Nitish Kumar and former Bihar Chief Minister Lalu Yadav has seen significant fluctuations over the years, with the two leaders fluctuating between political collaboration and rivalry.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), another prominent political player in Bihar, also weighed in on the “second Gandhi” posters. BJP spokesperson Kuntal Krishna actively criticized the comparison, labeling it as “despicable.” Krishna accused Nitish Kumar of opportunism, highlighting his shifting stance from opposing Lalu Yadav for three decades to now aligning with him in pursuit of the Prime Minister’s post. He went further to dub the Bihar Chief Minister as “the most opportunistic leader in the country’s politics.”
