PM Modi Leads Fuel Saving Drive by Cutting His Convoy Size in Half

By Raju Raj 13/5/2026

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has shown the way by directing the Special Protection Group to bring down the number of vehicles in his official convoy by about 50 percent. This important decision comes as part of a larger effort to promote careful use of fuel and reduce government spending. The Special Protection Group has already started making these changes while keeping all necessary security arrangements in place. Only extra vehicles that are not must for safety are being removed. Along with fewer cars there is also a push to use more electric vehicles in the convoy and stop buying new vehicles for now. This practical action by the Prime Minister sends a clear message that everyone in the system needs to think about saving resources when global fuel prices are under pressure.

Government departments across the country are now looking at different steps to follow this lead. Ministries are discussing ways to lower fuel use such as encouraging more people to use the metro and public transport promoting carpooling for office travel and holding meetings online instead of traveling long distances. There is also focus on avoiding unnecessary events and trips. Several states ruled by the Bharatiya Janata Party have quickly taken action. In Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has ordered a 50 percent cut in vehicle convoys for ministers and officials. Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav reduced his own convoy from 13 to 8 vehicles. Similar steps are being seen in Maharashtra and other places where leaders are asking officials to prefer trains or shared rides and limit foreign travel. These moves show how the Prime Ministers message is turning into real changes on the ground to help the country manage its fuel needs better.

The timing of this drive matches the current global situation where tensions in West Asia have pushed up energy costs and created worries about supply chains. India which buys a large part of its oil from outside wants to protect its foreign exchange reserves by using fuel wisely. Citizens have also been asked to support this by working from home when possible using public transport more and delaying non essential purchases like gold. Many people appreciate that the top leader is making personal changes first instead of just giving advice. This builds trust and encourages common people to join the effort. At the same time some voices point out that big reductions in official travel and events can help save money that can be used for public welfare like better roads or health services. The focus on electric vehicles also points to a longer term shift towards cleaner and cheaper transport options that can benefit both the environment and the economy.

This whole approach reminds many of the careful habits people followed during difficult periods in the past. By leading from the front Prime Minister Modi is highlighting that small changes made by many can create a big positive effect for the nation. States and departments are expected to share their progress on fuel saving so that best practices can spread quickly. For ordinary citizens this means more encouragement to choose buses metros or cycling for short trips and to plan travels smartly. The message is simple yet powerful saving fuel today helps keep the country strong tomorrow. As more leaders and officials adopt these habits the combined impact can ease pressure on prices and support stable growth. People across India are watching these steps closely and many feel motivated to contribute in their own daily lives whether at home or at work.
