PoK Protests Escalation Exposes Serious Human Rights Violations Against Young Demonstrators

A wave of intense civil unrest across Pakistan-occupied Kashmir has escalated into a major human rights crisis, drawing international attention to the region's mounting political and economic turmoil. Civil demonstrations initially organized by groups such as the Jammu Kashmir Joint Awami Action Committee began as peaceful assemblies protesting rising inflation, electricity tariffs, flour shortages, and political underrepresentation. However, as the movement expanded across major urban centers including Rawalakot, Muzaffarabad, Mirpur, and Kotli, security forces responded with harsh measures, leading to violent clashes, severe injuries, and civilian casualties.

Reports emerging from the region highlight growing concerns over the impact of the crackdown on young demonstrators and civil society members. Local activist networks and human rights advocates allege that security forces deployed live ammunition, tear gas, and night raids to disperse crowds, resulting in the deaths and injuries of numerous young individuals, including youths as young as 15 years old.
