Telangana Auto Driver Beaten to Death Over Change for 20 Rupee Fare
A dispute over change for a modest auto fare turned into an act of deadly violence in Telangana, leaving an auto driver dead on the roadway. The fatal confrontation occurred after a passenger boarded a three-wheeler and had an argument with the driver over returning change for a twenty rupee note. The incident has sent shockwaves through the local community, highlighting how routine disputes in public transit can quickly turn into street violence.
The altercation took place in Sangareddy district when a passenger hired the auto-rickshaw for a short commute. Upon reaching the destination, the commuter handed over currency to pay the agreed twenty rupee fare and demanded immediate change. A disagreement arose between the passenger and the driver regarding the exact balance of coins or notes available to return.
What began as a verbal argument over small currency notes escalated within minutes. Frustrated by the delay, the passenger began verbally abusing the driver. As the argument grew more heated, the commuter, joined by companions who arrived at the scene, dragged the auto driver out of the vehicle and began assaulting him with bare hands and blunt objects nearby.
Witnesses on the street reported that the attackers beat the driver across the face, chest, and head, ignoring his pleas to stop. Bystanders attempted to step in to defuse the situation, but the attackers continued their assault before fleeing the location. Due to severe internal injuries and trauma to vital organs, the auto driver collapsed on the pavement and died on the spot before medical assistance could reach him.
Local police personnel arrived at the scene shortly after receiving emergency calls from residents. Officers cordoned off the area, prepared an inquest report, and sent the deceased body to the government hospital mortuary for a post-mortem examination to establish the precise cause of death.
Police have registered a formal murder case against the accused persons and deployed special teams to trace and arrest those involved in the fatal assault. Investigators are also examining security camera footage from nearby establishments along the route to identify the sequence of events and track down the culprits.
