Tragic Deaths of 24 Patients, Including 12 Newborns, Raise Concerns at Nanded Government Hospital

In a heart-wrenching incident, 24 patients, including 12 newborns, have tragically lost their lives in the past 24 hours at the Dr. Shankarrao Chavan Medical College and Hospital in Nanded, Maharashtra. The devastating situation has prompted concerns and questions about the adequacy of medical resources and staffing in the government hospital.

According to media reports, the dean of the hospital attributed the deaths to a combination of factors, primarily the shortage of medicines and hospital staff. The patients who succumbed to various ailments, including snake bites and poisoning by arsenic and phosphorus, reportedly faced challenges in receiving prompt and adequate medical attention due to the hospital’s limitations.

The situation has been further compounded by the transfers of various medical staff, which have strained the hospital’s ability to provide critical care. Dr. [Doctor’s Name], a doctor at Nanded Medical College, explained that the frequent transfers have disrupted the hospital’s operations and hindered the provision of essential healthcare services.

Former Chief Minister and senior Congress leader from Nanded, Ashok Chavan, expressed his deep concern over the situation. He mentioned that, in addition to the tragic deaths, approximately 70 other patients who had been referred from private hospitals in the district were reported to be in critical condition. Chavan called on the government to address this grave situation promptly.

“Around 24 people’s deaths have been reported at the Dr. Shankarrao Chavan Medical College and Hospital, and therefore, I have come here and met the Dean. The situation is concerning and serious,” said Chavan. “The government should take this up and provide immediate help…Around 70 other people are critical. However, it is hard to digest the facts presented by the doctor, and a thorough inquiry is underway.”

The tragic incident has underscored the urgent need for a comprehensive investigation into the circumstances surrounding these deaths. Questions are being raised about the hospital’s preparedness to handle medical emergencies and the overall healthcare infrastructure in the region.

As authorities delve into the matter, the families of the deceased patients are left in mourning, and the entire community awaits answers and accountability for this devastating loss of life.
