Warangal Woman Rescued from Oman Confinement Returns Home After KTR Intervention

A harrowing twenty-five-day ordeal in West Asia came to an end as Mohammed Mahamuda, a forty-five-year-old woman hailing from Warangal, safely landed at Hyderabad International Airport. Trapped in Muscat after falling victim to a fraudulent recruitment scheme, her return was made possible following direct intervention and financial support from Bharat Rashtra Samithi Working President KT Rama Rao. The incident underscores the persistent dangers faced by vulnerable job seekers lured abroad on tourist visas with false promises of domestic employment.

The crisis began when an unverified recruitment agent promised Mahamuda a domestic helper job in Oman, facilitating her travel on a standard tourist visa. Upon arriving in Muscat, she was handed over to a local sub-agent who immediately confiscated her passport and mobile phone. Confined to a restricted room, she was subjected to forced labor, physical assault, and psychological harassment. When she demanded to return home, the handler threatened to frame her in a false theft case and demanded a payment of over one lakh rupees to cover alleged travel costs.

With no direct means of communication or access to official assistance, Mahamuda remained in confinement for nearly twenty-five days. Her plight eventually reached media professionals and local television executives in Hyderabad, who brought the emergency to the attention of KT Rama Rao. Taking immediate notice of the case, the former minister pledged to personally cover all expenses required for her release, travel, and repatriation, while directing the BRS non-resident Indian cell in Muscat to coordinate with official diplomatic channels.

The overseas representative of the BRS cell, in coordination with the Indian Embassy and local Muscat police, initiated an intensive search operation to trace the location of the victim. Following several days of coordinated efforts with local law enforcement authorities, police successfully located the premise, secured her release, and recovered her withheld passport. Embassy officials provided shelter and protection for three days while travel documents and flight logistics were finalized for her journey back home.

Upon arriving in Hyderabad, an emotional Mahamuda expressed deep gratitude to the political leadership, diplomatic staff, and media professionals who coordinated her rescue. In the aftermath of the incident, public warnings were issued to prospective migrant workers across Telangana, advising them never to travel to Gulf nations on tourist visas for employment purposes.
