The world’s largest river Island is in Majuli. This Island is situated in the northeast state of Assam. The
basic meaning of Majuli is ‘the land amid two rivers’. Brahmaputra river in the south and the Kherkutia Xuti joined by the Subansiri River in the north had formed Majuli Island. Majuli is famous as the cultural capital and the cradle of Assamese civilization for the past 500 years. The largest island was founded by
the saint Srimanta Sankardeva, the neo-Vaishnavite cult, a monotheistic offshoot of Hinduism. During the 15th century, a revered Assamese saint, Srimanta Sankardeva established several satras or monasteries.
The Indian Times news recently made the voice on the island. The world’s largest river island, Majuli,
might disappear in the future. Majuli attracts tourists with its beauty of greenery, huge variety of flora
and fauna. It is renowned as a tourist hotspot for its vibrant culture.
But there is a danger looming ahead. The world nowadays is suffering from constant erosion and floods.
This has reduced the world of aqua, forests, and seas. The largest river island is now half of its original
size. Feels wonder right? but it’s true. ‘will the Brahmaputra river eat away one of the world’s biggest islands?’ This question was raised in the minds of experts. As per their research, this island will get completely dissolved by 2030 due to excessive sediment discharge. Majuli means the island between two parallel rivers. The direction of the Brahmaputra river changes often or frequently. Coupled with numerous erosions, majuli island might just disappear in the future,
and so now it’s in a danger zone. So the experts suggest the tourists not to miss out on visiting heaven, they must visit atleast once before nature plays its role and the island disappears. In and around you could find wonderful places to stay, and other places too.
