The Australian captain was ignored by PM Modi after handing over the 2023 world cup in Narendra Modi Stadium.

The World Cup trophy presentation ceremony at Narendra Modi stadium in Ahmedabad named after Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi happened in an unexpected manner. Modi, hoping for an Indian victory to enhance his re-election prospects, quickly exited the stage after handing the men’s Cricket World Cup trophy to Australian captain Pat Cummins. This abrupt departure left Cummins alone on the platform, holding the trophy, while fireworks celebrated Australia’s six-wicket win over India in Ahmedabad, witnessed by a stunned audience of over 90,000.

Modi’s departure occurred alongside Australia’s Deputy Prime Minister Richard Marles, creating an unusual scene as Cummins navigated the moments following the trophy handover. Despite the initial awkwardness, the Australian captain and his team went on to cherish their victorious moment, securing their sixth victory in the showpiece men’s 50-over tournament.

The final match saw Cummins make a bold decision to bowl first after winning the toss. This strategic move paid off as he and his players executed a brilliant performance, restricting India to a total of 240 runs in 50 overs. Cummins, contributing significantly with the ball, took 2-34 in his 10 overs, including the crucial wicket of Virat Kohli, the tournament’s top-scorer, who managed 54 runs.

Australia faced early challenges, reduced to 47-3 after seven overs, but Cummins’ impactful bowling and the resilient batting display turned the tide in their favor. Opener Travis Head emerged as the hero, hammering an impressive 137 from 120 balls, supported by Marnus Labuschagne unbeaten 58. The duo’s partnership of 192 for the fourth wicket played a pivotal role in Australia’s successful chase.

The trophy presentation, marked by Modi’s swift exit and Cummins being left momentarily alone on the stage, added a new twist. However, the focus shifted back to the cricketing prowess displayed by Australia as they overcame challenges and emerged victorious in the final. The celebration that followed, with Cummins and his team eventually joining in after Modi’s off-stage interactions, encapsulated the essence of a hard-fought and memorable World Cup campaign.
